As a working mom, I know firsthand how amazing, hard, and tiring life can be. While social media can often paint a picture of a flawless life, the reality is that motherhood is far from perfect. The ups, downs, and in-betweens are all a part of the journey. I have my moments of exhaustion and frustration, but I also have moments of joy and triumph that make it all worthwhile.
In this picture, you can see a snapshot of my life and what matters to me. I am a business owner, entrepreneur, lobbyist, and most importantly, a mother. I was sitting outside of my child's basketball practice, an hour early on a cold Canadian winter day. I had a press conference with the Prime Minister which was crucial for one of my clients and I needed to watch, report on it, and suggest next steps. I knew the press conference would be during the time I would usually be driving my child to basketball practice, so we went early. My 2 children and a friend sat silently while I worked and listened to the conference, all while I stressed about the gas tank quickly running out. This moment of chaos perfectly captures the lengths and dedication that working moms go to in order to achieve their personal and professional goals.
I share this moment with you to remind you that you are not alone. The struggle of trying to do it all and be it all can be exhausting, but it's okay to have days where everything goes smoothly, and it's okay to have days where everything falls apart, both are normal. As a working mom, we all do the best we can with the time we have. Remember, the imperfections of motherhood are what make it beautiful and unique. Embrace the journey, and don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Together, we can inspire and empower each other to do whatever it is we think we can't.
